After you cancel your account with AOL, follow these instructions to uninstall the AOL program files from your computer. The AOL program files will prevent your computer from "talking" to another ISP (Internet Service Provider).
- Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Select America Online and click the Add/Remove button.

- The America Online Uninstall program will begin searching for the versions of AOL that are installed on your computer.

- Select the AOL version installed on your system and click the Next button.

- America Online will give you one final prompt before it begins uninstalling the software. Click on the Next button to continue.

- It will take several minutes for AOL to uninstall the software. It the end you may be prompted to restart/reboot your computer.

- During some uninstalls, AOL fails to remove certain network components. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click the Network. Look for AOL Adapter. If it is in the list, select it and click the Remove button.

- If you have a network card, you might also see a component called "TCP/IP-> AOL Adapter". If so, select it and click the Remove button.

- All of the AOL program files and settings should now be removed from your computer. Reboot Your Computer.
