Nonprofit Organization Promotion
Qualifying Guidelines

eNOW has adopted the following Code of Ethics. It is inspired by those from several sources, including highly respected nonprofit organizations. We find these points to be basics that should be part of any company or organization that we find ourselves supporting, to ensure the highest standards of morality, legality and nondiscrimination. Please review the following and know that your signature on this application affirms your agreement with these basics.
  1. Mission. Nonprofits are created to support the needs of humanity and function to achieve a stated purpose through specific programs. A nonprofit should have a clearly defined mission and recognize their obligation to ensure efficient and effective implementation of their programs and proper utilization of their resources toward achieving those programs.

  2. Equality. Nonprofits will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, disability, sex, marital status, or age. The nonprofit will follow all Local, State, or Federal laws pertaining to discrimination.

  3. Public Affairs and Policy. Nonprofits represent a major means by which individuals get together and make a joint effort to improve their communities. Nonprofits need to be in accord with the interests of the people they serve through public policy advocacy and public education. They should encourage board members, staff, volunteers and constituents to participate in the public affairs of the community.

  4. Board of Directors. A nonprofit organization should ensure knowledgeable oversight of the organization and it's mission. To meet this requirement, a nonprofit should have a board of directors to govern the nonprofit. As the governing body, an elected, volunteer board of directors should be comprised of individuals who are committed to the mission of the organization. An effective board should determine the nonprofit's mission and actively function to institute programs, rules and guidlines that support that mission.

  5. Conflict of Interest. A nonprofit should create and administer policies that assure their board and staff members act in the best interest of the organization, rather than in the furtherance of their own personal interests or those of any third parties. These policies should be reviewed regularly for compliance to prevent actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest and to ensure objectivity.

  6. Human Resources. A successful nonprofit must recognize the crucial role played by its paid staff and volunteers. An organization needs human resource policies that ensure fair treatment of both paid and volunteer members. These policies should clearly define expectations and performance review guidelines. These policies should always, at a minimum, meet or exceed the laws for which the organization is governed, whether Local, State or Federal.

  7. Fundraising. The success of a nonprofit is often dependent upon charitable fundraising as it's most important source of financial support. A nonprofit's fundraising programs needs to reflect not only its own integrity and mission, but also be compliant with the interests of its likely donors. The fund raising activities should always remain lawful in nature. Fundraising programs must reflect an efficient and honest facilitation.

  8. Openness. As an entity founded for the benefit of the public and with the support the public, a nonprofit must stand open to the public, prepared to share information with the public about their mission, programs and finances. A nonprofit should maintain a stance of cooperation and accessibility for any who may show interest in the affairs of the organization. Open disclosure of all organization activities, missions, visions, funds obtained and funds spent and how the funds were obtained or spent is important to a nonprofit's perceived integrity.

  9. Legal and Financial. Sound financial management and accurate record keeping are paramount for a nonprofit. Keeping in compliance with an array of legal and regulatory requirements and ensuring proper utilization of financial resources in implementing the organization's charitable programs helps ensure the nonprofit's good public image. Policies and practices should regularly be reviewed for compliance with regulatory and liability issues.

  10. Legal Use of Funds. Nonprofits will not use any funds obtained from EnterNet NOW, Inc. for any illegal, immoral, unethical or discriminatory practice. The Nonprofit will follow and adhere to all Local, State and Federal laws that apply to or may govern it.

"There is only one ultimate and invariable duty, and its formula is ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself’. How to do this is another question, but this is the whole of moral duty."
